Also available: VGA (640 x 480), SVGA (800 x 600) and HD (1024 x 768). There are manually adjustable features like brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness and exposure time. Users may implement own applications for the UVC camera via DirectShow (Windows) or Video4Linux (Linux). The new UVC board-level cameras are perfectly suitable for applications in machine vision, mechanical and apparatus engineering, transportation, security and process monitoring as well as in embedded and kiosk systems. IDS recommends VLC player and AMCap (Windows), GUVCView (Linux) and Facetime (OS X) for a quick set-up and evaluation of the camera.
UVC (also USB video class) is a standard that combines certain devices into a special class of USB devices. UVC industrial cameras by IDS bring the advantage that there is no more need for a special driver to use the cameras. The standard UVC driver allows the cameras to operate independently of the manufacturer. Therefore as soon as the user connects the camera to his or her computer, the camera can be used straightaway to deliver images.
