Thomson (Euronext : 18453 ; NYSE : TMS), today announced the launch of the TG628, the first product in a new range of advanced broadband gateways for business DSL deployments. The THOMSON TG628 is an 8-wire (4 pair) SHDSL.bis EFM (Ethernet First Mile) gateway which allows operators to offer a full 22 Mbps two-way Ethernet service over the copper wiring that dominates the last-mile of telecom networks across Europe. The new range of broadband gateways will enable operators to cost-effectively deliver a comprehensive range of cutting-edge managed services including voice over IP PBX (Private Branch Exchange), Virtual Private Network (VPN) and content filtering.

The rapidly increasing numbers of home and mobile workers across the globe has driven requirements for symmetrical broadband services by placing a premium on high bandwidth, VPN access into business networks for file-sharing and office applications. With up to 22 Mbps symmetric bandwidth deliverable over existing public wiring via the 8-wire SHDSL standard and integrated IPSec VPN, the THOMSON TG628 offers telecom operators an alternative to deploying fiber connections to the business for high-bandwidth services. Further, the integration of remote management and quality of service standards means that operators running a networks operation centre for monitoring of gateways in the field can confidently offer Service Level Agreements (SLA) to their customers.
