Amanda Zaluckyj from the blog "The Farmer’s Daughter USA" proposes that the agriculture becomes a trendsetter in the matter of New Top Level Domains.
She recommends to the farmers not only to buy a com-Domain, but a Farm-Domain as well.
"Here’s my take. You can have more than one domain name that points to your website. And they’re fairly inexpensive. So buy both!"
Amanda Zaluckyj continues:
"For example, if you’re considering buying a domain name, I suggest purchasing the .com version first. So MyFarm.com. But I would scoop up the .farm extension as well. So MyFarm.farm. That way, you’ll have the option of using either domain extension. And no else can get it first."
It is possible to develop the website at the com-Domain as the first address and redirect the Farm-Domain to the com-Domain.
The relationship between a better ranking in search engines and new top-level domains has already been proven in a study of Searchmetrics for .berlin domains. Websites with .berlin domains often rank better with regional searches in Google than sites with .de domains and .com domains.
"In 42% of searches, .berlin domains rank better locally."
Another study by Total Websites in Houston shows that the results of the Searchmetrics study are in principle applicable to all new TLDs, including e.g. new Farm-Domains. Total Websites notes that Google sees the domain extensions of new TLDs as an important criterion for the evaluation of a domain and, therefore, concludes that:
"It's clear that the new top-level domains improve the ranking in search engines."
