ubitricity, provider and operator of public charging solutions and a member of the Shell Group, has secured a tender in the Netherlands for new public charging stations. The local e-mobility project agency MRA-Elektrisch has awarded three charge point operators (CPOs), with ubitricity being one of them, to roll out and operate up to 35,000 charge points in Flevoland, North Holland and Utrecht. As ubitricity received the most points out of the three CPOs in the tender, ubitricity is entitled to the largest share of charging points to be realised over the next six months. The ratio in the realisation of chargers of each of the CPOs will be reviewed periodically based on performance.
ubitricity will install AC standalone charging stations with two sockets per charger. All stations will be branded Shell Recharge, Shell’s established brand for EV charging at home, at work and on the go. The roll-out is set to begin in the coming months and will be completed by 2028 at the latest. Following the installation, ubitricity will operate the chargers for up to ten years.
As with all ubitricity-operated charging stations, simple and convenient charging experiences are the top priority. EV drivers will be able to use their usual charging cards and e-mobility apps thanks to ubitricity’s connection to the roaming platforms e-clearing and Hubject. Alternatively, charging sessions can be initiated without any registration via ubitricity's Pay-As-You-Go system. ubitricity will also roll out innovative smart charging features to enable EV drivers to charge according to their needs and at better conditions. This technology also allows to control the load on the local power grid.
The new project marks the second collaboration between MRA-Elektrisch and ubitricity in less than a year. The first joint project began in April 2023, when ubitricity won a tender for the operation of nearly 1,500 charge points in the same three regions. Those chargers were step-by-step taken over from the previous operator from July 2023 on.
